This Read Me file contains product information for the
installation/upgrade for operating systems - Microsoft Windows
95, 98, ME, 2000 and Microsoft Windows NT 4.0.

- INSTALLATION AND REMOVAL ISSUES

NEW INSTALLATION AND UPGRADES:
WARNING: If you are currently running EPICS 5.0 or EPICS 5.1, the software will be removed by this installation.  
To preserve data in your current version of EPICS software:
-Export the data through the [Files] menu, 
-Exit the installation 
-Call Dick Walker at(804) 643-5573 x107 or send email to dick@vhi.org for instructions on exporting existing data.

TO INSTALL EPICS 5.2 FROM THE WEB 
-Click on the web link Epics52Install2.zip and save the zip file to a folder on your hard drive.
-Once the download completes, rename Epics52Install2.zip to Epics52Install2.exe
-Double-click on Epics52Install2.exe to run the self-extractor.  Allow the files to be extracted to the folder 
	c:\Epics52Installation, as indicated on the self-extractor window.
-Once the files have been extracted, click on Start/Run
-Browse for the file Epics52.exe in the newly created download folder.
-Click Open
-Click OK to launch the installation

The installation will configure the destination computer to run EPICS 5.2 based on the presence or absence of 
Microsoft Office components.

VERY IMPORTANT: The software should be installed in the default installation directory c:\program files\epics5.  
Do not change the installation directory even if the installation program offers this option.  To do so will
cause the file export function to fail.

UNINSTALL INSTRUCTIONS:
-Computers with Microsoft Office 97 or Microsoft Office 2000 installed:
	Follow these steps to uninstall the EPICS 5.2 software from a machine that has Office 97 or Office 2000 installed:
	1. Close all currently active applications.
	2. Open Control Panel by clicking on Start/Settings/Control Panel
	3. Click on Add/Remove Programs
	4. On the Install/Uninstall tab select EPICS 5.2
	5. Click on the Add/Remove button
	6. Accept the default setting of Automatic and click Next
	7. Click on Finish to remove the software.

-Computers with NO Microsoft Office installations:
	You must do two consecutive de-installs to completely remove the EPICS software from your computer.  The first de-install
		removes the Access Runtime installation and the second completes the uninstall.
	Follow these steps to uninstall the EPICS 5.2 software from a machine that has NO Microsoft Office components installed:
	1. Close all currently active applications.
	2. Open Control Panel by clicking on Start/Settings/Control Panel
	3. Click on Add/Remove Programs
	4. On the Install/Uninstall tab there will be two entries for the EPICS software.  Select EPICS not EPICS 5.2
	5. Click on the Add/Remove button
	6. Click on Remove All
	7. Click on Yes when asked to confirm removal of the software
	8. Click on Restart Windows
	9. Once Windows has restarted follow the instructions under the previous section for computers with Office components present.
	TIP:  Should you inadvertently uninstall the software in the opposite order you can reverse this error by 
		re-installing the software from the installation CD and then uninstalling following steps 1 through 9.
